Overview

Ping.FM plugin for GNOME Do allows you to post microblog or status message updates via Ping.FM's service. You need a Ping.FM account to use the plugin.

Configuration

You should provide your Ping.FM Application Key in the Configuration dialog before starting using the plugin. The application key can be obtained either from the link provided in the Configuration dialog, or from Ping.FM's application key page

Usage

Posting a message

To post a message, start typing the message in the first pane after you have summoned Do. Then switch to the second pane and type "Post via Ping.FM" there (normally before you finished typing, the action should already be showing). You can as well switch the two operations, meaning first typing/searching the action, and then write the message in the second pane.

On the third pane, you need to select the service you are going to post the message to, including those you have pre-defined in your account and also two service groups: "Microblog" and "Status". You can select an individual service like Twitter or Facebook, or an service group to post the message; The latter will let your message posted across all the microblog services or status services.

You can also use the Ping.FM trigger inside your message. When using a trigger, the target service displayed in the third pane will be restricted to the one associated with the trigger you typed. For example, if your message starts with "@tt", the third pane will only display "Twitter", which will be the destination service of your message. For a list of available triggers, please refer to Ping.FM's help page.

Character Limitations

According to Ping.FM's API documentation, there are different limitations to the characters entered depending on the type of the services. For microblog update, the limitation is 140 characters; for status update, 200 characters is the limit. Once the limitations are exceeded, the correspondent services will not be available any more.
