Overview

The Bibtex plugin for Do indexes a Bibtex Database. If you link an entry to a file with the "file = {}," (ala Jabref) property then the Bibtex plugin allows you to open a document in your database by typing part of an authors name, or paper title.

Setting Up

Use the configuration dialogue to set your Bibtex database and the parent folder of your documents. If you have an absolute path to your documents, then select "/" as your documents folder.

Use

To use this plugin, activate Do and enter the name of an author or the title of a paper. There will probably be many matches, so you may have to scroll down the list to until you find the correct paper (Do will learn your most used selections). To open the document, press enter. If the path to the file does not exist, the icon will indicate that if cannot be opened.

There is also an action to copy the documents bibtex key to the clipboard.

Known Bugs

  • Paths containing the character ":" will probably confuse things.
  • Paths containing newlines and tabs wont be opened, this is an issue with xdg-open. Should you really have a tab and newline in a file name anyway!?
  • Special characters (i.e. {\' i} for í ) are not substituted. (you can use unicode directly with \usepackage[utf8]{inputenc} )
  • If you are having difficulties using the plugin, it is probably because the plugin does not parse your "file ={}" attribute correctly. Send me on an example bib file and I will sort it out.
